The eighth season of M-Net’s hit talent competition Idols kicked off with a bang on Saturday with the biggest opening day queue of Idols hopefuls ever. Jozi’s aspiring singers started camping out outside the Sandton Convention Centre from 14:00 on Friday last week afternoon and at dawn on Saturday the queue was snaking all the way around the building, filling an entire block in the heart of Sandton with excited Idols energy.“It’s thrilling to think that the next South African Idol might already be in this very queue!” said Idols host and now also co-producer, ProVerb.
“This year Idols is looking for a funky, cool, versatile singer with soul,” says M-Net Communications Manager Lani Lombard, “someone who has the talent and personality to captivate the imagination of an entire nation.” Season 8 of Idols is a co-production between M-Net and Mzansi Magic and will be broadcast on both channels from June 2012.
On Saturday, 11 February auditions move to Durban, at uShaka Marine World; on 18 February it’s Cape Town’s turn at the GrandWest Casino And Entertainment World; and the final auditions for 2012 will take place at the Walter Sisulu Hall in Kliptown, Soweto, on Saturday, 25 February.
