By Cover MediaKristen Stewart has landed the leading role in upcoming drama Lie Down in Darkness.
The actress will portray Peyton Loftis in the indie film based on William Styron’s novel.
Crazy Heart director Scott Cooper will direct the feature which, Vulture reports, focuses on Peyton, a young girl in 1950s Virginia whose “intense physical beauty makes her the object of her frigid mother’s jealous hatred and the target of her father’s incestuous, alcoholic lust”.
Kristen reportedly beat out Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence for the part.
Jennifer was vying for the role, but is filming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and X-Men: Days of Future Past for the foreseeable future and can’t fit the project into her schedule.
Some critics are surprised by the casting, as Kristen is currently enmeshed in controversy after admitting to cheating on her boyfriend Robert Pattinson with married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders and it was thought that the confession would damage her career.
Director Scott has recently wrapped Out of the Furnace starring Christian Bale and Casey Affleck.
It is currently unknown when production will officially begin on Lie Down in Darkness.
