By Joseph MosselsonWhen Kristen Wiig stepped into the spotlight as the writer and star of Bridesmaids (Sun 5 Aug at 20:05 on M-Net and M-Net HD), she did so on the back of several award-worthy seasons on Saturday Night Live and a host of hilarious supporting roles in movies and on TV.
Here are some of her finest scene-stealing moments in the lead-up to becoming a bona fide leading lady.
Paulette in Adventureland
With these two scenes Wiig shows her value as an ensemble player. Not only does her off-key persona play perfectly off Bill Hader’s manic carnival manager, her line-delivery is perfect and her comic timing is pure genius.
Jill in Knocked Up
Passive-aggressive is hard to play. But in this scene, Wiig delivers an undermining masterclass, perfectly straddling the line between deeply unpleasant and absolutely hilarious.
Brahbrah in Flight of the Concords
Kristen’s character is actually the least zany element in this episode of the classic comedy series. She does, however, get the last word with an absolute killer line that’s the cherry on top of a delicious comedic sundae of awkwardness and inspired musical comedy.
Check out the fantastic song her character inspired:
Yoga Instructor in Forgetting Sarah Marshall
In a movie packed with scene-stealing cameos (check out an unrecognisable Paul Rudd as the world’s most infuriating beach bum), Kristen brings her comedic A-game and simply walks away with the scene under the noses of Russell Brand and Jason Segal.
Ruth Buggs in Paul
Wiig strikes the perfect balance between creepy and cute playing a sheltered religious fanatic who experiences a sudden awakening. Her awkward chemistry with Simon Pegg is something to behold.
Don't miss Wiig's well-earned star turn in Bridesmaids, Sun 5 Aug at 20:05 on M-Net and M-Net HD.
