Idols fans voted in their hundreds of thousands and on Tuesday night Obakeng Ramaboa, 26, from Munsieville became the first casualty of the Idols Season 8 Spectacular.Over 200 000 more votes were cast for this year’s Top 10 competition than for last year’s Top 10, but unfortunately “OBK” was the contestant who received the least of those votes, and his Idols dream came to an end.
The Top 10’s mentor Louise Carver appeared as the special guest star in Tuesday’s Results Show live from the Mosaïek Teatro, performing her brand new single, How You Gonna Do It. Louise thought Khaya, Tshidi and Chloe were the best performers in the Top 10 show.
Idols host ProVerb kicked the show off by splitting the Top 10 finalists into a top half and a bottom half, based on the week’s votes. Nosipho, Obakeng, Monde, Dom and Melissa found themselves in the bottom half.
Those who survived the axe will have to work harder this week, when Tamara Dey mentors the remaining Top 9 Idols hopefuls. On Friday, contestants will enjoy the thrill of performing on the same stage as John Legend in the Top 9 Spectacular!
The Top 9 Spectacular will be broadcast on M-Net, M-Net HD and Mzansi Magic at 17:30 on Sunday, 12 August.
