Courteney Cox gained overnight fame as neurotic yet loveable Monica Gellar on the Emmy Award-winning comedy Friends. She teams this season with Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence on Cougar Town. They will serve as executive producers through their companies, Coquette and Doozer, respectively.
Cox was most recently seen in Disney's family comedy Bedtime Stories, opposite Adam Sandler. On television she most recently created, starred, and produced in FX's comedy Dirt. Last year she made the natural segue from producing to directing on the drama Monday Before Thanksgiving, for Glamour's Reel Moments Project, a series of three short films based on real women's stories written by Glamour readers. The project benefits a women's program for FilmAid International, an organization that uses the power of film to promote health, strengthen communities and enrich the lives of women around the world.
In 2004 Cox and husband David Arquette established their own production company, Coquette. Projects have included Dirt, the interior design show for cable's WE (Women's Entertainment) Network entitled Mix It Up, the comedy Daisy Does America for TBS, and most recently The Tripper, a horror film written and directed by Arquette.
Cox made her acting debut in 1984 on the daytime soap As the World Turns, and later that year was cast by Brian de Palma for Bruce Springsteen's video, Dancing in the Dark. Following the series, she appeared in several feature films, including the box-office success Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, opposite Jim Carrey.
Cox became a household name with the launch of the hit television series Friends. Born in Oak Park, Illinois and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona, actress Busy Philipps has known she wanted to act for as long as she can remember. At 18 she moved to Los Angeles to attend Loyola Marymount University and pursue acting as a career.
With her memorable performance as tough but sympathetic rebel teen Kim Kelly in the critically praised series Freaks and Geeks from Judd Apatow and Paul Feig, Philipps crafted one of the most compelling young characters in contemporary television. She went on to play roles in such features as Anatomy of a Hate Crime, The Smokers and Home Room. After roles on Dawson's Creek and Undeclared, in 2004 she took a lead in the Shawn and Marlon Wayans comedy White Chicks. Friends and family were shocked when, thinking they'd been invited to a birthday party, Philipps showed up in a wedding dress and the couple married on the spot. They have one child, Birdie Leigh Silverstein, born August 13, 2008.
